Michael Noble (Director)
Professor of Social Policy. Director of the Social Disadvantage
Research
Centre and Director of the Centre for Analysis of
South African Social Policy at the University of Oxford. He is Deputy Head of the Department of Social Policy and Social
Work. Prior to that he was a social welfare lawyer working
in a community work/welfare rights project. He has been an
advisor to the UK government on small area indicators of
poverty and deprivation. His major research interests are in the areas of poverty
and social exclusion, and income
maintenance policy.
David McLennan (Deputy Director)
Senior Research Fellow Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford and Deputy Director of the Social Disadvantage Research Centre. He
is interested in area deprivation and regeneration policy. He has particular interests in the relationship between crime and deprivation at the small area level and in population estimation
Gemma Wright
Senior Research Fellow Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford and Deputy Director of the Centre for the Analysis of South African Social Policy. Her main research interests are: concepts, definitions and measurement of poverty and social exclusion, indices of multiple deprivation, and longitudinal analysis of social security data.

Danielle Mason
Research Officer in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford. Her areas of interest include measurements of poverty and social exclusion,
and small
area level analysis of administrative data.
Adam Whitworth
Research Officer in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford. His areas of interest include social exclusion, income maintemance policy and
the interface between work and social security.
Sonia Exley
Research Officer in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford. Her areas of interest is education policy and deprivation.
George Smith (Director Emeritus)
Reader in Social Policy and Head of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work. He was with Michael Noble co-founder of SDRC. His fields of
interest include urban disadvantage, social security, poverty/low income
and education, and the measurement of deprivation at the local level. He
worked on the Educational Priority Areas project, the Community
Development Project; was co-ordinator of OECD project on disadvantaged
youth. Until April 1996 he was part time adviser/research consultant to
the British Government's Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED), London and before that
to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools (HMI). He is now based full-time
in Oxford, engaged in social research and teaching in social policy
Chris Dibben
Senior Research Associate Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford and Lecrurer at the University of St Andrews. His areas of interest include health inequalities, spatial aspects of poverty and deprivation, and methodological aspects of poverty measurement.
