This multi-disciplinary centre brings together researchers in the University of Oxford, as well as researchers nationally and internationally with whom we have worked, who are researching into issues relating to parenting and children.

The aims of the centre are

	To develop a better understanding of the well-being of parents and children; what causes problems (health, educational and social) and how they may be ameliorated.
	To build multi-disciplinary national and international research links.
	To act as a discussion forum for researchers from different disciplines and for practitioners (health, education and social) who work with children and families.
	To disseminate research findings.

The need for the Centre

Children have needs which cross the Health, Educational and Social divide. The Centre provides a research base for studying these needs and finding ways to meet them.

The consequences of problems in parenting have implications for all services both within the UK and internationally. The costs of children with behavioural problems, for example, impinge on Health, Education and Social Services in all countries.

As we learn how to improve the quality of life and prospects for children, particularly those children who in the past may not have done so well, it makes sense for national and international researchers from different disciplines who are working in this field to come together and share their knowledge and expertise.
