Dr.Tony Newman, Ph.D., MSc (Econ.), CQSW

Tony Newman has been Principal Research Officer with Barnardo’s since 1990.  He previously worked as a social worker in the USA and UK, and subsequently as a manager of community-based learning disability services in South Wales.   His main research interests are the impact of parental disability on children, the promotion of resilience and the implementation of evidence-based practice.  Tony’s current role straddles practice and academic work, and involves extensive direct work with social care services, small and large scale studies and evaluation, the management of research and frequent collaborative projects with different academic bodies.  He has undertaken work with and for a range of national and international research consortiums, including Making Research Count, the Centre for Evidence-Based Social Services, Research in Practice and the Campbell Collaboration.  His main current interest is in determinants of long term adjustment for children exposed to early difficulties, and to this end is researching inter-war child migration from the UK to Canada.
