Dr. Hans Grietens, PhD (Groningen, The Netherlands, 1999)

Hans Grietens is professor at the Centre for Disability, Special Needs Education, and Child Care at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). He teaches and conducts research on children with behavioural problems and on child and youth care. His research activities on children with behavioural problems focus on the development of aggression and the relationships with parenting. Currently, he conducts a longitudinal research project on relational aggression in elementary school children. In this project, the role of coercive parenting and parental psychological control on relational aggression will be examined. His research activities on child and youth care focus mainly on outcomes of interventions and on new target groups in care, in particular children and youth from ethnic minorities and unaccompanied young minors. Hans Grietens is secretary and executive board member of the European Scientific Association on Residential and Foster Care for Children and Adolescents (EUSARF) and editor of EUSARF’s journal - The International Journal of Child & Family Welfare. He is also a founding member of the International Association for Outcome-based Evaluation and Research on Family and Children’s Services.
