Fran Bennett

Fran Bennett is a half-time research officer and departmental lecturer, with a focus on social policy, and a particular interest in social security policy, gender issues, and poverty, income distribution and participation. She is also an independent consultant, and has written extensively on social policy issues, with recent contracts with the European Commission (via the University of York), the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation amongst others. She is joint editor of the Social Policy Digest for the Journal of Social Policy, and was a member of the Commission on Taxation and Citizenship, set up by the Fabian Society, which reported in 2000. She is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Social Policy and Benefits. She worked for the Child Poverty Action Group for ten years from 1983-93, first as deputy director and then director, and was more recently policy advisor on UK and EU poverty issues with Sandy Ruxton for Oxfam GB for three years.
